Wadhurst Mural

In Celebration of Small Things is a 12-metre long mural painted during a year’s residency at Wadhurst Park Estate in 2019.

The estate is reviving its medieval landscape of meadows and coppice woodland in the High Weald of Sussex.

The mural depicts a selection of native wild plants, invertebrates, birds and small mammals intertwined in habitats across the wall.

All are named with hand-painted labels for the benefit of staff and visitors. Every species on the mural has been recorded on estate land.

Working with the estate’s ecologist, plants were painted from wild samples collected daily (with the exception of the rarest ones which were observed in the field).

Below are blogs written throughout the project.
